About

Music Facilitation and Consultation

In more than a decade of experience working with clients with a variety of issues including schizophrenia, developmental disabilities, Alzheimer's disease and dementia, I’ve seen music reach individuals who respond to almost nothing else. I work with clients, their caregivers and families to offer best-loved music both by playing and singing in one-to-one sessions as well as using technology to provide personalized playlist of favorite music that can be enjoyed anytime to amplify joy, reduce stress, and enhance quality of life.

In addition to individual music sessions with clients, I also provide consultation and instruction on technological solutions and teach clients, caregivers, and family members to use technology to provide a client’s favorite music anytime. Services include:

  • Facilitating enjoyment and creative expression through music appreciation and participation
  • Assisting clients, caregivers, and family members to make personalized playlists of favorite music
  • Playing musical instruments (acoustic, electric, and electronic), writing songs, and producing audio recordings using a variety of instruments, tools, and software
  • Engaging with clients of all ages and physical, mental and emotional issues including Alzheimer’s, dementia, schizophrenia, and mental and/or physical challenges
  • Teaching instrumental skills and encourage participation

I love this work and believe absolutely in the power of music to improve life for all. I look forward to working with you!

Testimonials

When my child, Linus, expressed interest in deepening his knowledge of bass guitar, I immediately reached out to Alex Sniderman. I knew Alex as a wildly talented lead singer and guitarist. What I didn't know was how gifted he was as a teacher.  Linus started weekly Zoom lessons during the pandemic. Alex gave him structure and purpose during a dark and isolating time. Not only did he teach technique and music theory, he nurtured Linus's growing interest in electronic composition and music technology.  Alex worked with him in Ableton Live, Pure Data, and MAX/MSP.  Inspired by Alex's teaching, Linus has even gone on to program from scratch his own Partch synthesizer.

For four years, through the pandemic isolation, a return to high school, and now three years into college, Alex has been a friend and mentor to Linus. He's challenged him and held him accountable. He's inspired him and helped him grow, not just as a musician and composer, but as a person. Alex is communicative, collaborative, and flexible. I cannot recommend Alex highly enough!

Alex is a wonderful music facilitator/specialist. He has worked several of my clients using  technology to make playlists and is also teaching their aides to use the technology to facilitate ongoing enjoyment of the music.

He also brings along a guitar and can learn/sing/play any song or music.

I highly recommend him!

Carter Life Care, Founder & Life Care Manager

Over the past 13 years working in centers for rehabilitation and skilled nursing, assisted living communities, and memory care neighborhoods, I frequently have called upon Alex Sniderman to lead music groups, provide entertainment, offer appropriate interventions for troubled or confused residents, and share his knowledge and skills with staff, interns and students.  Alex truly knows how to reach people with his music.  His repertoire spans the musical tastes of multiple generations, countries, and cultures. I highly recommend his work.

Alex Sniderman worked with me for several years as a Music and Recreation Specialist with our Rainbow Program focusing on residents with Alzheimer’s and dementia as well as facilitating a variety of activities with  higher functioning residents. He has a natural talent for interacting with elderly patients and special kids. Through his music, he is able to communicate with them on another level, soothing their spirits and allowing them to zone into their place and time through their favorite songs. He is a wonderful facilitator when working one-to-one with clients. I take great pleasure in recommending his services.
